J. Serrato and Rob Dixon share many musical influences and tastes. They will present a wide range of styles that have been part of their long musical careers. Their program features a very energetic mix of modern jazz and groove based compositions.

Rob Dixon—A native of Atlanta, tenor saxophonist, Rob Dixon went to Indiana University where he came under the influence of the renowned jazz educator David Baker. After moving to New York in 1996, he began gigging around town with other up-and-coming musicians like drummer Ari Hoenig, organist Greg Lewis and pianist Rick Germanson, and vocalist Cynthia Layne. He subsequently worked in Illinois Jacquet's big band for four years before following tenor saxophonist Mark Turner in Tana Reid, a straight-ahead quartet co-led by drummer Akira Tana and bassist Rufus Reid.

Rob returned to Indianapolis in 2003 where he is the Artistic Director for the Indy Jazz Fest. He’s also an adjunct professor at IUPUI and Earlham College. He mentors the Jazz Futures; an Indianapolis Jazz foundation sponsored ensemble comprised of talented high school musicians from various high schools throughout the metropolitan area of Indianapolis. He’s known as the “Musical Mayor of Naptown.”

J. Serrato—Joseph Serrato grew up in South Texas knowing he would be a musician. He followed his father’s footsteps as a saxophonist and bandleader.
After attending the University of North Texas, he moved to Austin to pursue his career.
He has been one the city’s busiest musicians known for his versatility and tone. He has played with the scene’s top bands and toured with international artists, and he has an impressive catalog of original compositions featured in motion pictures and television.
