Saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, and educator Joseph Stratemeier earned his Bachelor of Arts in music education at California State University, Northridge, where he studied classical saxophone under renowned teacher Jerry Luedders. He is currently completing his Master of Music in jazz performance at Texas State University.
Stratemeier has played with a variety of notable musicians and groups, including Doug Lawrence, Charlie Young, Brian Bromberg, Greg Bissonette, and the Eddie Durham All-Star Big Band, as well as being the lead tenor chair in the Texas State University Jazz Ensemble for the past year and a half. His approach is influenced by a number of diverse saxophone voices, including Michael Brecker, Andy Snitzer, Bob Berg, Bob Reynolds, and John Coltrane to name a few. His graduate recital will feature works by Brecker, Bob Mintzer, and Chase Baird, as well as originals and arrangements of standards.
