Dan Carillo is a guitarist, composer, and arranger with extensive international performing experience in major concert halls, jazz clubs and jazz festivals throughout Europe, Asia, North America and South America. As a working musician on the NYC jazz scene, he performed and recorded as a guitarist, featured soloist, and arranger with Tania Maria, Jon Lucien, Harry Belafonte, Lonnie Liston Smith, the Paul Winter Consort, Chico Hamilton, Dianne Reeves, Dave Brubeck, Ron Carter, John Patitucci, Letta M’Bulu, and in numerous radio and television jingles, television soundtracks, and feature film soundtracks. Dan served as a Professor of Music and Director of the Jazz Studies Program at the City College of New York from 1989 to 2018 when he retired from teaching and moved from New York to San Antonio. 

Dan has released four recordings of original music, Crossings of the Spirit and Child’s Play for Iris Records, Homage for Imara Music, and his most recent release Liminal Space, with John Patitucci, Jason Rigby, Glen Velez and Bob Weiner. His fifth recording, Witness, featuring his current group, Dan Carillo & Common Good with Andrew Bergmann on bass and Aaron Walker on drums, was released in February 2022 and is available on Spotify, iTunes, iMusic, Amazon, YouTube Music, and other streaming platforms. 

Since moving to San Antonio, Dan has performed with many notable local musicians including, George and Aaron Prado and the Regency Jazz Band, Andre Hayward, Gerry Gibbs, Adrian Ruiz Quartet, Katchie Cartwright’s Brazilian Jazz Ensemble, Polly Harrison, the Main Street Jazz Band with Rich Oppenheim and Chuck Moses, Joshua Alderete and the Fellowship, the Jerry Espinoza Quartet, Toro Flores, Kory Cook, Anthony Thomas Martinez and the Jazz Standard, and many others.
