David Mesquitic is a jazz pianist, educator, and arranger committed to the intergenerational transfer of the knowledge, history, and traditions of jazz. Mesquitic is currently earning his Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Studies at the University of Texas at Austin, the recipient of the 2021-2022 South Texas Fellowship. He was recently part of the University of Northern Colorado’s Lab 1, 2020 Downbeat’s award-winning Large Jazz Ensemble category. In addition, he recently performed at Jazz at Lincoln Center for the Jack Rudin Jazz Championship with UNC Lab 1. As bandleader, he released his first trio album in the summer of 2019, titled “Preamble.” The record features arrangements and originals that pay tribute to the Great American Songbook and draws inspiration from Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Andy LaVerne, and Keith Jarret. As an artist, Mesquitic remains active in Central Texas, performing and arranging as leader and sideman in both jazz and commercial-based projects. He has had the privilege to share the stage with luminaries such as Aubrey Logan, Dick Oats, Carmen Bradford, Benny Benack III, Andre Hayward, and James Morrison.
