After a brief hiatus, Monks is back and excited to present German trumpeter Pascal Klewer for our first concert of the Summer! He will be joined by some of Austin's finest; Daniel Dufour on drums and Sam Pankey on double bass.
Pascal Klewer is a trumpeter and composer born in Cologne, Germany in 1997. He began playing the horn at the age of 8, joining several school ensembles and orchestras. At the age of 14, while living in Austin, Texas, he began intensively listening and learning about jazz, quickly forming his own groups in which he both performed and composed music of various genres.

Since 2015, he has studied jazz trumpet at the Cologne Music Conservatory with Andy Haderer, Matthias Bergmann, and Jürgen Friedrich. He has played/collaborated/written with numerous jazz greats, such as Dianne Schuur, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Randy Brecker, Jiggs Wigham, Niels Klein, Peter Brötzmann, CCJO, SJO, Evan Parker, Kit Downes, Christian Lillinger and many more.

In addition to his working bands, the trio Bräumer/Klewer/Eftychidou and the Pascal Klewer Bigband (featuring exciting soloists such as Evan Parker or Peter Brötzmann, he has also been a member of the Landesjugendjazzorchester Hessen, the Bundesjazzorchester, the HipHop Brass Band MOZAH. His debut album, "Chasing Memories" ( is out on UNIT Records, highly acclaimed by critics.

Featuring a 5'7" 1946 Knabe grand piano, handmade furniture, craft cocktails, and a strict whisper-policy, Monks began as a jazz listening room in an East Austin warehouse in September of 2016.

Continuing as a pop-up event series, unconventional performance spaces are paired with world-class musicians to create unique and exceptional experiences.

There are plenty of venues to have a conversation across a table, but Monks is not that place! Out of respect to our audiences and the musicians, we enforce a strict whisper-policy during performances.
